MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Far Eastern University (FEU) Diliman recently honored Lace Guzman Tarectecan, known professionally as Lacey Tïtania, with the University Excellence in Moral Conduct Award during its year-end recognition ceremony. The award celebrates individuals whose consistent ethical leadership, integrity, and positive influence embody the university’s core value of “Fortitude in Virtue.”

Lace, a senior high school student before pursuing a General Academic Strand, was selected from hundreds of nominees for demonstrating exceptional moral ascendancy across campus and community initiatives. Moral ascendancy—defined here as the ability to inspire and guide others through principled action and unwavering character—has been a hallmark of her work both inside and outside the classroom.

“Lace’s commitment to doing what is right, even when faced with challenges, has set a powerful example for her peers,” said FEU Diliman’s Dean of Student Affairs. “She has led initiatives to promote academic honesty, mediate conflicts with empathy, and organize outreach programs for underserved communities in Quezon City—all rooted in a deep sense of responsibility to others.”

In her acceptance, Lace emphasized that moral leadership is not about perfection but about accountability and service. “Moral ascendancy isn’t something you claim—it’s something you earn through small, consistent choices to prioritize people over convenience and integrity over ease,” she shared. “I am grateful to FEU for nurturing an environment where these values are not just taught, but lived.”

Among her notable contributions is the “Ethics in Action” student coalition she participated, which has developed workshops on responsible social media use, anti-bullying campaigns, and ethical decision-making for high school students in nearby barangays. She has also served as a peer counselor, providing confidential support to students navigating personal and academic struggles with compassion and respect.

The award, which includes a plaque of recognition and a grant for her coalition’s future projects, underscores FEU Diliman’s commitment to fostering leaders who will contribute meaningfully to Philippine society. “We believe that moral ascendancy is essential for building a just and progressive nation,” added Dean. “Lace embodies the kind of leader we hope to nurture—one who leads with heart, mind, and principle.”
